Mexico Strengthens Cooperation and Trade with the Republic of Korea
  • The Director General for Asia-Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs traveled to the Republic of Korea to participate in the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation and promote bilateral trade and investment

From August 28-30, Fernando González-Saiffe, Director General for Asia-Pacific at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, traveled to Seoul to participate in the 14th workshop of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) and promote trade and investment with the Republic of Korea.

In commemoration of FEALAC's 25th anniversary, the Mexican official highlighted the importance of linking the Forum's work to the objectives of the 2030 Agenda. He also participated in the meeting of the FEALAC Fund Steering Committee, which brings together 20 countries from Latin America and 16 from Asia-Pacific.

Additionally, the Director General met with his counterpart for Latin America and the Caribbean from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Cai Wei, to enhance cooperation and political dialogue. He also met with Lim Chung Hyun, Head of the Americas at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), to discuss trade and investment opportunities in Mexico.

Lastly, González-Saiffe spoke to the participants of the 2024 MIKTA Young Leaders' Camp on Mexico's role in the international arena and its connections with the Asia-Pacific region and the Republic of Korea.

Korea is Mexico's 5th largest trading partner globally and the 2nd among Asia-Pacific countries. For Korea, Mexico is the most important trading partner in Latin America.

The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirms its commitment to continue strengthening economic and cooperative ties with the Republic of Korea.
