PREVIOUS UPDATE AUG. 23, 2024

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is closing both N. Locust and N. Elm Street between W. Hickory and W. McKinney St starting Monday, Aug. 26, as part of ongoing downtown road improvements. Recent updates to the project scope, communicated to us earlier this week, revealed that sections of Elm and Locust Streets on the Square will now be included in the current construction efforts.

Construction on these sections is set to begin on Monday, August 26, with completion anticipated by Monday, September 30, barring any unforeseen delays. To minimize long-term disruptions to the downtown, both Locust and Elm Streets will be completely closed between W. Hickory Street and W. McKinney Street during this period. All cross streets within the closure will remain open during this time.

Key Project Details:

  1. Construction Location:
  • N. Locust Street: Between W. Hickory and W. McKinney St.
  • N. Elm Street: Between W. Hickory and W. McKinney St.

Parking will be unavailable along these sections during construction. For alternative parking options in Downtown Denton, please visit Denton Mainstreet's website.

  1. Timeline:
  • Construction will commence on Monday, August 26, with an expected completion date of Monday, September 30. The City is committed to supporting TxDOT to ensure the project remains on schedule.
  1. Business Engagement:
  • Understanding the potential impact on local businesses, the City will actively engage with the downtown business community to address concerns, explore solutions, and offer support during the construction period.

The City of Denton remains dedicated to minimizing any inconvenience to our residents and businesses. We encourage the community to keep visiting downtown to support our local businesses.
