Baku, Azerbaijan - Two executives from the Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI) will join delegates from more than 190 countries in the capital of Azerbaijan next week for the 29th Annual United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29).
COP29 will bring together representatives from across the globe under the theme, "In Solidarity for a Green World," to negotiate international agreements to collectively work to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, build more resilient communities, and finance climate action.
"California's is, and will continue to be, a model for the world when it comes to our efforts to address climate change head-on. I am honored to be in this space and share insights from our experiences on green transitions across various sectors, including transportation, agriculture, energy, and manufacturing."Director Assefa, who is also the Chair of the California Strategic Growth Council, will be joined in Azerbaijan by the acting Executive Director of State Planning and Policy Development, Abby Edwards. Both will not only participate in COP29 as attendees but will also deliver presentations, sit on international panels, and offer keynote speeches on topics ranging from collaborative climate action to the importance of including Tribal and youth voices in climate conversations.
Directors Assefa and Edwards are two of four California representatives participating in COP29. The Secretary for the California Natural Resources Agency, Wade Crowfoot and Secretary for the California Environmental Protections Agency, Yana Garcia are also attending.
