Highlighting DG's Military Appreciation Efforts

At Dollar General, we continually strive to support and show appreciation to those who have served and continue to serve our country. Our efforts to continually recruit and retain veterans in the workforce is evidenced by U.S. Veterans Magazine naming Dollar General to its Top Veteran-Friendly Companies List for the tenth consecutive year.

DG has a longstanding history of supporting those who serve through:

  • exclusive discounts to active military, veterans and their immediate family;
  • community outreach through the Company's military employee resource group (SERVE);
  • support of United Through Reading through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and
  • the founding of the Paychecks for Patriots program that supports service members' transition to civilian life through meaningful employment opportunities.

In addition to the corporation's commitment to veterans, individual team members frequently demonstrate Dollar General's mission of Serving Others by independently supporting service members.

Store Manager Lisa Phillips, when not tending to customers at store #3611 in Columbia, Illinois, is committed to impacting her community by promoting the wellbeing of combat veterans.

"Since learning about the Vietnam War in high school, I have been passionate about the needs of veterans once they return home," shared Lisa. "Helping these veterans is such a reward, and our store team is always there to step in when they need help."

Lisa has been Serving Others with Dollar General for more than five years and is known throughout the Columbia community for her efforts with the local non-profit organization, Songs4Soldiers, where she frequently helps the organization fundraise.

"Lisa has been a volunteer for our events for several years," shared Dustin Row, founder of Songs4Soldiers. "She is always willing to lean in and make our veterans feel cared for and loved."

To honor Lisa's drive and commitment to living out the Company's mission, $1,000 was awarded through the DG Kindness program to support Songs4Soldiers. "My team and I work hard and give what we can for this amazing organization," added Lisa.

The DG Kindness donation furthers the organization's mission to enrich the lives of combat veterans and their families with limited resources and aids their everyday needs such as rent payments, groceries, service animal support and utility payments.

Thank you to our DG team for all of their efforts to support members of the military on Veteran's Day and beyond!
