Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena arrived in Washington, D.C. today for meetings on Tuesday, July 16 and Wednesday, July 17. These include various meetings with senior U.S. officials to discuss bilateral topics such as migration, development cooperation and investment. Additionally, she will participate in the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP) Ministerial.
In Washington, D.C., Secretary Bárcena will meet at the White House with Amos Hochstein, Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy Security, to discuss economic diversification and investment.
She will also meet with Marcela Escobari, Special Assistant to the President and Coordinator for the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection at the National Security Council to explore ways to ensure safe, orderly, regular, and humane migration.
On Wednesday, July 17, Secretary Bárcena will meet with U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland to discuss strategies for protecting the vaquita porpoise and combating totoaba trafficking and illegal, unreported fishing.
Later that day, Secretary Bárcena will participate in the APEP Ministerial. The meeting will focus on creating a sustainable framework to boost regional competitiveness and strategies to increase public engagement and promote equitable growth.
The Foreign Secretary will also participate in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce forum "Building Opportunities and Competitiveness through Private Sector Partnerships." This forum aims to foster binational public-private partnerships that lead to investment and improve regional competitiveness.
Secretary Bárcena will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to analyze the bilateral relationship and sign the State Department guest book.
She will participate in the Angel Investor Network Roundtable at the White House and meet with John Podesta, Senior Presidential Advisor for Clean Energy, Innovation, and Implementation to discuss combating climate change.
Lastly, the Secretary will speak at a reception offered by the Council of the Americas to the APEP secretaries.
The Mexican delegation accompanying Foreign Secretary Bárcena includes Chief Officer for North America Roberto Velasco Álvarez; Mexican Ambassador to the U.S. Esteban Moctezuma Barragán; Director General of Global Economic Promotion Rodrigo Morales Castillo; and Director General of Political Affairs for North America Cristina Planter Riebeling.
