Department of Elections
City and County of San Francisco
John Arntz, Director
For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, November 21, 2024 - Today, the Department of Elections issued the 17th preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election.
The Department expects to next issue results reports when certifying the election on Tuesday, December 3, 4 p.m.
Today's preliminary results report includes 146vote-by-mail and provisional ballots counted since the previous results report issued November 19.
Today's results are mostly comprised of ballots that voters cured since November 19. The results also include ballots received from the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) which supports military and overseas voters and which that agency timely received from voters, and ballots resolved during the canvass of voting materials.
Any remaining ballots that could be processed are those that are received from voters that cure their ballots for such reasons as signature-related issues - of which there are approximately 550 ballots, ballots that FVAP forwards that were timely received from military and overseas voters, and ballots received from elections offices in other counties. Also, the Department continues its canvass of election materials and may identify ballots for processing.
Tomorrow, Friday, November 22, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., the Department will continue to conduct the manual tally of 1% of the ballots cast in this election. The manual tally results will be compared to the machine counts of the same ballots to verify that the voting system accurately counted and reported votes cast in the election. The tally is occurring in the Department's warehouse located on Pier 31.
Department personnel will continue the canvass of election materials in City Hall from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The manual tally, canvassing of election materials, and ballot processing are open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe.
The Department will next release results reports on Tuesday, December 3, 4 p.m., which will be posted at www.sfelections.gov/results.
When the Department issues results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
