19th Street traffic shift planned for August 5

LUBBOCK - The Texas Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin shifting 19th Street (US 62/SH 114) traffic, between Avenue Q and University Avenue, onto the westbound lanes on Monday August 5, weather permitting. The traffic shift will allow crews to begin work on upgrading city of Lubbock waterlines and storm drainage system before making road repairs and placing a new road surface.

Traffic will be reduced to one-lane in each direction. Because of the new traffic changes, drivers are asked to slow down and stay alert throughout the entire project work zone. Pedestrians are also reminded to watch out for construction vehicles and traffic, and to only cross at the designated crosswalks.

The work is part of a $25.69 million project making improvements to more than three miles of US 62/SH 114 in the city of Lubbock, from Memphis Avenue to I-27. Improvements include rebuilding a portion of the road, placing a new road surface and making updates to the drainage system, sidewalks, traffic signals and lighting.
