Bridge maintenance work moves to westbound Loop 289 frontage road

LUBBOCK -Repairs on the eastbound Loop 289 frontage road bridge, at I-27, have been completed. Crews are scheduled to remove barricades, reopen all lanes and shift work onto the westbound frontage road bridge at I-27 on Tuesday, Aug. 20; weather permitting.

The removal of the barricades will require the both the east and west-bound Loop frontage roads to be closed to traffic during the operation-scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bridge maintenance and repairs are scheduled to begin on the westbound south Loop 289 frontage road bridge over I-27 starting next week. The work will require the westbound Loop 289 frontage road cloverleaf ramp to southbound I-27/US 87 and the northbound I-27 frontage road cloverleaf ramp to westbound Loop 289 to be closed to traffic.

Northbound I-27 frontage road drivers will be detoured to 66th Street west, then south on the I-27 frontage road to connect with westbound Loop 289.

Westbound Loop 289 frontage road traffic will be detoured to University Avenue then onto the eastbound frontage road to connect with southbound I-27/US 87.

Motorists can expect various lane closures on the westbound frontage road bridge, should anticipate traffic delays and are urged to slow down and use caution when driving through the work zones, since crews will be working in close proximity to traffic.

The Loop 289 frontage road bridges and several I-27 bridges are part of the $1.9 million project to replace bridge joints and bearing pads, make concrete repairs and upgrade the guardrail fencing on the bridge structures. Work on all bridges is scheduled to be completed in late-2025. Work will take place weather permitting.
