Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird today announced that former City Budget Officer and Finance Department Director Steve Hubka will return to the City of Lincoln as Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) beginning July 8. Lyn Heaton, Chief Financial Officer for the City, announced June 14 he has accepted a position at the Nebraska Department of Transportation. His last day with the City will be July 8.

Hubka started at the City in 1981 as an assistant accountant and became the City's Budget Officer in 1990. Hubka also served as Finance Director from 2011 until his retirement in 2016.

"I enthusiastically welcome Steve Hubka back to our City team. His substantial experience and understanding of the City's financial landscape make him a valuable asset during this transitional period," said Mayor Gaylor Baird. "Steve's leadership will be instrumental as we seek the best candidate for the permanent CFO role."

Heaton joined the City in 2022, succeeding Brandon Kauffman, who served as City Finance Director from 2017 until January 2020.

"Thank you to the Mayor for this opportunity to serve the residents of Lincoln by once again leading the talented and skilled team in the City's Finance Department," Hubka said. "I look forward to ensuring continuity and ongoing excellence while the Mayor seeks a permanent replacement for Director Heaton."

The Finance Department provides consistent, reliable, and timely financial services to City residents and internal departments. The Department comprises eight divisions: Accounting, Administration, Budget, City Clerk, City Treasurer, Information Services, City Fleet Coordination, and Purchasing.
