'DEC Does What?!' Podcast Episode 12 Now Available: DEC Dispatch: Who You Gonna Call

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today released the latest episode of "DEC Does What?!", the bi-weekly podcast that features conversations with DEC experts about the agency's wide-ranging efforts to protect New Yorkers and the environment. Episode 12-"DEC Dispatch: Who You Gonna Call?"-gives listeners an inside look at the critical work of DEC's communications operators who each year receive more than 100,000 emergency and non-emergency calls for public assistance involving Forest Rangers, Environmental Conservation Police Officers, and Spills Response experts.

Recorded on location at DEC's Region 5 Ray Brook Regional Office in Essex County, hosts Interim Commissioner Sean Mahar and Chief of Staff Erica Ringewald speak with two of DEC's communications operators working at DEC Dispatch Alicia Bodmer and David McCasland about expecting the unexpected and how they stay calm and focused when speaking to people during challenging circumstances. Alicia and David share their most memorable rescue calls-including one involving an owl who isn't a fan of Garth Brooks-and tips on being prepared before visiting the outdoors.

All episodes of "DEC Does What?!" are available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music, and all major podcast platforms.
