PTBA Receives Tamasya Award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for Its Consistency in Community Empowerment

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) received the Community Development and Empowerment Performance (PPM)/Mining For Society Welfare (Tamasya) Award 2023 in the Large Scale Coal category from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

The award was handed over by Act. Director General of Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Bambang Suswantono to the Director of Operations and Production of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Suhedi in Jakarta on Friday, December 8, 2023.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif in his remarks gave directions to mineral and coal mining companies to optimize the implementation of Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) programs.

"Excellent mining companies should be able to inspire the community as to view mining activities positively through the PPM program, become good role model for Indonesia's coal and mineral mining industry, and increase enthusiasm for the PPM program implementation to be able to continuously benefits the local communities and provide the best possible sustainable living conditions," said Arifin.

The Director of Operations and Production PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Suhedi expressed his gratitude for the acknowledgement from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

"This award is a recognition of PTBA's consistent effort to improve the welfare of communities around the operational area through various PPM programs. We feel very grateful. Through various PPM programs, we strive to share positive benefits and ensure sustainability. This award motivates us to continue encouraging community independence and economic transformation around the operational areas," said Suhedi.

According to Suhedi, not only economic contribution, PTBA as a state-owned enterprise is also committed to taking an active role in social and environmental aspects through various initiatives.

PTBA has developed 8 PPM fields: education, health, group development and coaching, economic independence, social culture, community participation in environmental management, infrastructure development to support PPM independence, and innovative PPM along with solar irrigation.

This year's Tamasya Award assessment activities were conducted on 31 companies holding Contracts of Work (KK), 59 companies holding Coal Mining Concession Work Agreements (PKP2B), 842 companies holding Mining Business Permits (IUP) for metal mineral commodities, 2,900 companies holding Business Permits Mining (IUP) for non-metallic mineral and rock commodities, 955 business entities with Mining Business Permits (IUP) for coal commodities, and 9 companies holding Special Mining Business Permits (IUPK).

The assessment team consisted of independent expert assessors from various universities, such as the University of Indonesia, Sriwijaya University, Padjadjaran University, Diponegoro University, Gadjah Mada University, Bandung Institute of Technology, Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Yogyakarta University and Politeknik Kesejahteraan Sosial Bandung as well as practitioners.
