Project NURTURE's Trailblazer: The Resilient Path of Jacquline Williams

Posted on Dec 05, 2024

Jacquline Williams is a trailblazer, being one of the first graduates of the Project Network for Urban and Rural Teachers United for Residency Engagement (NURTURE) Pathway Program at Fort Valley State University (FVSU). Her journey in education began in 2005 as a paraprofessional in the Houston County School System. Despite her aspirations to become a teacher, life presented her with challenges that delayed her dreams.

When her oldest daughter, Amira, turned seven, Jacquline planned to return to school. However, when the youngest daughter, Trinity, was born, she chose to prioritize motherhood. Years later, as Amira entered middle school and Trinity started 2nd grade, Jacquline attempted to resume her education but faced another significant life change. She once again put her dreams on hold to focus on her children. Jacquline's perseverance is evident as she navigates these personal challenges. Her eldest daughter, Amira, is now a 24-year-old postpartum nurse, and Trinity is a freshman at NYU, studying abroad in Italy.

Jacquline's path turned positive when her school counselor introduced her to FVSU's Project NURTURE. The program was designed to address teacher shortages by preparing paraprofessionals and career changers to enter the teaching profession. Despite grieving the loss of her father, she embraced the opportunity, which provided certification, financial support and the ability to maintain her employment. This led her to pursue a Master of Arts in Middle School Education, further solidifying her commitment to education. Jacquline persevered despite facing personal challenges, including balancing her career with motherhood and overcoming significant life changes.

Jacquline's diverse experience in social work and education highlights her commitment to positively impacting the lives of children and young adults. She has worked as a sixth-grade teacher, support therapist assistant, childcare director, juvenile case manager and daycare teacher. Each role has equipped her with unique skills and insights, further driving her passion for education and student development.

Jacquline's story is a testament to her resilience, faith, and dedication to education. Her journey reflects the power of support systems and the importance of perseverance in achieving one's dreams. As Jacquline herself puts it, "Every challenge I've faced has only strengthened my resolve to make a difference in the lives of my students."
