Bidiksiba Scholarship Giving Him the Courage to Dream

Noval Hariyanto, a young man from Tegal Rejo Village in Muara Enim Regency, spoke about his experience participating in the 2014 Education Scholarship Program for Students around Bukit Asam (Bidiksiba).

This Bukit Asam High School graduate came from an low-income household. Both parents were unable to provide the funds necessary for him to continue pursuing higher education. However, Noval did not give up. The Bidiksiba Scholarship program from PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) gave him the courage to dream.

"My father works as a motorbike taxi driver. My parents would not be able to afford the tuition. Later, while searching for a scholarship I came across the Bidiksiba Program," said Noval.

After passing the 2014 Biksiba selection, Noval was accepted into the Chemical Engineering study program at Sriwijaya State Polytechnic (Polsri).

"The Bidiksiba Scholarship provides for our needs. We never feel lacking, everything is covered and we even have extra," he said.

Noval now works as Field Operator for a private company in the petrochemical industry.

He hopes that the Bidiksiba Program will continue to help youths from low-income families in PTBA's operational areas achieving their dreams. "Keep dreaming, don't be afraid to dream big," he said.

According to PTBA VP Sustainability, Hartono, the Bidiksiba Program is in line with PTBA's Noble Purpose as a member of the MIND ID Group: to explore natural resources for civilization, prosperity and a brighter future.

Not just Noval, but hundreds of students have also been able to achieve their dreams because of PTBA Bidiksiba scholarship. There have been 277 recipients of this scholarship between 2014 and 2022.

The Bidiksiba program aims to help high school graduates and equivalents coming from economically disadvantaged families in the company's operations areas in pursuing higher education.

"Bidiksiba is one of PTBA's commitments to breaking the chain of poverty through education," said Hartono.
