EU Ambassador Christine Grau will visit Pemba Island to launch the "Green and Smart Cities SASA" program, investing TZS 190 billion (EUR 75 million) in sustainable urban projects. Her visit includes touring EU-supported projects and meeting local leaders to discuss further collaboration.

The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community, Christine Grau, is scheduled to visit Pemba Island for a two-day program aimed at strengthening the EU's partnership with Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Building on her recent discussions with President Hussein Mwinyi, Ambassador Grau's visit underscores the EU's ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable development in Isles.

During her visit, Ambassador Grau will officially launch the "Green and Smart Cities SASA", a significant Team Europe program investing TZS 190 billion (EUR 75 million) in sustainable urban development across Mwanza, Tanga, and Pemba.

In Pemba, the program focuses on three key projects: KIJANI PEMBA, PURE, and INCLU-CITIES. These projects aim to improve urban infrastructure, basic services, and economic opportunities for local communities.

In addition to the launch ceremony, which will be attended by senior government officials, local authorities, and community leaders, Ambassador Grau will also visit several sites supported by EU development projects. These include schools, training and processing facilities, and the Ngezi forest reserve.

Furthermore, she will meet with Members of Parliament from the region, civil society representatives, including NGOs, religious leaders, and the private sector to discuss the EU's partnership with Tanzania and Zanzibar and explore opportunities for further collaboration.
