Sparks, NV - The following are highlights from the September 23, 2024, Sparks City Council Meeting.

Announcements, Presentations, Recognition Items, and Items of Special Interest:

  • Staff announced three vacancies on the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee for Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and Humanities representatives for terms ending November 1, 2026. Applications will be accepted until October 18, 2024, at 5 p.m. and can be found at cityofsparks.us/getinvolved.
  • Mayor Lawson proclaimed the following:
    • September 29, 2024, as Veterans of Foreign Wars Day to honor the men and women who have courageously served our nation.
    • October 9, 2024, as International Walk to School Day to encourage citizens to walk or bicycle with their children to school while celebrating the benefits of increased safety and health.
    • October 6-12, 2024, as Fire Prevention Week to increase fire safety awareness and protect our community's homes and families.
  • The month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month to support victim-survivors, as well as urge residents to speak up against violence and promote healthy relationships.
  • Erin Hanna-Butros Meyering, Executive Director of Truckee Meadows Tomorrow, gave a presentation about the nonprofit organization.

General Business

Council approved:

  • A resolution updating City policy relating to the application and acceptance of grants and the acceptance of donated property other than real property.
  • The $10,879.02 United We Stand Grant Agreement to purchase ballistic plates, carriers, and helmets.
  • A $188,484.00, three-year lease agreement with Greg Street Investors, LLC, for the storage facility located at 10 Greg Street for the storage of reserve fire apparatus and logistical supplies.
  • A three-year $328,116.00, with the City of Sparks's estimated share being $125,209.06, Foxboro Intelligent Automation Customer FIRST Support agreement for the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility with Schneider Electric Systems USA, Inc.
  • Council directed the City Manager to initiate changes to Sparks Municipal Code Sections 20.04.002 to amend regulations related to accessory structures 200 square feet or less; and 20.04.004 regulations related to residential fence height when adjacent to arterial roadways.

Public Hearing and Action Items Unrelated to Planning and Zoning

Council held a public hearing and upheld the City Manager's denial to reverse $11,183.78 in sewer charges for 1225 Sparks Holdings, LLC, at 1225 Victorian Ave.
