FIJI – USA EXPLORE AVENUES OF STRENGTHENING...

Fiji, through the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications is looking into strengthening its relations with USAID on the grounds of critical support for climate relience, economic development and local governance. This also includes exploring new opportunities for partnership between Fiji and the United States of America.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica DPM, met with the USAID Deputy Administrator, Ms. Isobel Coleman, today.

DPM Kamikamica expressed Fiji's appreciation to the United States for its continued support in rebuilding democracy and strengthening the economy. He also highlighted the importance of digital transformation, cybersecurity, clean energy and facilitatation of invetsments United States investments in Fiji.

The discussion has established a foundation for further collaboration and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including economic development, trade, investment, and democratic governance.

Ms. Coleman emphasised the United States continued support for Fiji's economic growth and development, noting that the United States government is committed to providing cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, commercial agriculture, digital transformation, and climate resilience. Ms. Coleman also affirmed the United States Government's commitment to supporting Fiji's development objectives.

The United States acknowledged Fiji's efforts in shaping and committing to the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) and also for being one of the first countries to ratify all three agreements namely; the Supply Chain Agreement, the Clean Economy Agreement and the Fair Economy Agreement.

The Deputy Administrator was joined by Ambassador Marie C. Damour; Paula Tufro, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Development; Diane Farrell, Deputy Undersecretary for International Trade, Dept. of Commerce; Mission Director Zema Semunegus, including other senior officials from Development Finance Corporation and United States Trade and Development Agency.
