Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., announced today the guilty plea of SHARON GODWIN, 32, for crashing a stolen car into five pedestrians, including two children, and causing serious injuries. GODWIN pleaded guilty in a New York State Supreme Court to one count of Assault in the Second Degree. Under the terms of the plea, she is expected to be sentenced to 4 1/2 years in state prison on October 22, 2024.

"Addressing vehicular violence is an essential part of ensuring comprehensive public safety. We will hold reckless drivers accountable for the harm they inflict on pedestrians, bikers and other motorists, and I hope the victims in this incident can continue to make a full recovery from their injuries," said District Attorney Bragg.

According to court documents and statements made on the record, on March 15th, GODWIN was driving a vehicle that she stole from Yonkers.

As she was driving around Broadway and West 190th street she crashed into five pedestrians on the sidewalk, including two children. Two of the victims suffered broken femurs, one suffered a torn ACL and received several staples, and two others sustained substantial bleeding.

After she was arrested, GODWIN provided a fake name to the police.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant D.A. Zachary Kotin, under the supervision of David Hammer (Chief of Trial Bureau 70) and Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).
