Department of Streets Announces Construction to Begin on Various Intersections Along Roosevelt Boulevard

Temporary Street Closures and Parking Restrictions Expected to Begin the Week of September 9, 2024

PHILADELPHIA - Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi announced today that construction activities will begin the week of September 9, 2024 for the Boulevard Pedestrian Safety & Direct Bus Improvements along Roosevelt Boulevard. Traffic will be maintained during construction. Temporary parking restrictions and temporary lane closures are expected throughout the duration of the project to allow the contractor to safely perform required work.

The project will consist of sidewalk improvements and site work related to eight (8) bus station plazas located at four intersections:

  • Roosevelt Blvd & Broad Street
  • Roosevelt Blvd & Rising Sun Ave
  • Roosevelt Blvd & Langdon St
  • Roosevelt Blvd & Pratt St

Starting the week of September 9, the contractor will begin to install advanced traffic control signage and fencing for the project, with physical construction activities to begin shortly thereafter. Proposed construction activities include construction of concrete bus station plazas, removal and replacement of sidewalks and curbs, ADA-compliant ramp construction, installation of pedestrian scale lighting, enhanced seating, and other activities.

Each improvement location is expected to take approximately two (2) months, with temporary parking restrictions and lane closures used on an as-needed basis to safely and successfully perform construction activities.

Construction work is expected to be completed by late April 2025. This contract has been awarded to Tony DePaul and Son at a value of $3,398,691.60, and is being funded using federal, state, and city funds.

The Streets Department thanks residents and the traveling public in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
