CMPA announces 2024 Indiescreen Awards nominees

TORONTO, August 14, 2024 - Today, the Canadian Media Producers Association unveiled the nominees for its annual Indiescreen Awards. The awards recognize excellence among Canada's independent feature film producers, honouring producers whose vision and entrepreneurship demonstrate a commitment and passion for producing Canadian feature films.

Established Producer Award

The Established Producer Award recognizes a producer's (or production team's) filmmaking accomplishments over the course of their career, and includes a $20,000 prize.

2024 Established Producer Award nominees:

  • Aeschylus Poulos (Hawkeye Pictures Inc.) - Paying For It
  • Alison Duke (OYA Media Group, Goldelox Productions) - Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy Story
  • Kyle Irving, Lisa Meeches, Rebecca Gibson (Eagle Vision) - Deaner '89
  • Marie-Claude Poulin (Sphère Media) - 1995
  • Martin Katz (Prospero Pictures) - The Shrouds

Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award

The Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award recognizes a producer's (or production team's) early filmmaking accomplishments and bright career prospects, and includes a $10,000 prize.

2024 Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award nominees:

  • Annick Blanc, Maria Gracia Turgeon (Midi La Nuit) - Hunting Daze
  • Enrique Miguel Baniqued, Karen Chapman (Explorers, Smallaxx Motion Pictures) - Village Keeper
  • Julie Baldassi (Younger Daughter Films Inc.) - Darkest Miriam
  • Mike Johnston (Studio 104 Entertainment) - Curl Power
  • Ngardy Conteh George (OYA Media Group) - A Mother Apart

"This year's Indiescreen Awards nominees embody the passion, drive and grit that make Canadian feature film so exceptional," said Andrew Addison, the CMPA's Vice-President of Communications, Marketing and Membership. "From established producers making a mark on the global stage to an impressive group of emerging producers bringing excitement to the future of Canadian storytelling, we look forward to celebrating the nominees and winners this September at the Atlantic International Film Festival."

The winners will be announced at the 2024 Indiescreen Awards ceremony on Thursday, September 12, as part of the Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) for the first time. The event will take place at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from 5 - 7 p.m. AT.

The Indiescreen Awards are presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada.

To be eligible for the Indiescreen Awards, nominees must have acted as a producer on a Canadian feature film that premiered in the 2024 calendar year. The nominees and winners for the Indiescreen Awards are selected by national juries, each consisting of five industry leaders.
