Manage Your Kids' Video Games With ParentalTools.org

Written by Patricia E. Vance, President, ESRB

Get ready for ESRB's newest update to ParentalTools.org! We know that parents have a lot of options to manage your kids' video games, ESRB is here to help with a refreshed parental controls section and Family Gaming Guide.

Parental Controls Guides

ESRB has long provided step-by-step parental controls guides for many popular video game devices. We've completely reorganized this section of our websites to make sure you can find the settings you want to activate for the devices in your home faster and with fewer clicks.

Of course, our guides will still walk you through every step of the process, from creating child accounts for your kids, to activating each setting. Remember, virtually all devices that play video games offer parental controls with the ability to manage the games your kids play (based on the ESRB-assigned age rating), when and for how long, with whom they can play, and whether they can spend real money on new games or in-game purchases.

Family Gaming Guide

ESRB's Family Gaming Guide has become a go-to source for parents seeking in-depth tips and conversation starters around managing their kids video game experiences. This new update reorganizes the page to streamline the information so you can find what you're looking for more quickly. The Family Gaming Guide offers information on:

  • Picking appropriate video games
  • Establishing household rules
  • Managing online video game play
  • Managing screen time
  • Setting up child accounts and activating parental controls
  • Tips to keep your kids' personal information private

This overhaul will also make it easier for us to add new and helpful information as we continue to learn from parents! We're always open to hearing more from you about what we can do to help you manage your kids' video games, so don't hesitate to reach out to our Contact Page.

Remember you can access everything from ParentalTools.org on the go by downloading the ESRB mobile app (iOS and Android).
