Ku-ring-gai Council has been awarded a Public Libraries Infrastructure Grant of $312,315 to upgrade Gordon Library's services and facilities.

It's the second consecutive year Gordon Library has been successful in winning grant money from the infrastructure fund, having been awarded $450,000 last year.

The latest grant brings the total in funding received for the library to $762,315 over the past two years.

The Public Libraries Infrastructure grants are part of the State Library's annual round of funding for capital projects in local libraries.

The Council plans to spend the funding on an extended foyer to accommodate after hours events, establishing a quiet room for study, improving the local history area and purchasing additional furniture.

The internet access area will be relocated with 5 PCs and three hot desking terminals, with improved wi-fi throughout the library.

Existing collection shelves have already been replaced with flexible mobile shelving to free up space for events and workshops.

Mayor Sam Ngai said the library was moving into an exciting growth phase.

"The library has conducted customer research to guide the project. We are placing the changing needs of the Ku-ring-gai community at the centre of the planned improvements."
