GEO to host welcome picnic for international students Aug. 17

The Global Education Office (GEO) announces its annual picnic to welcome incoming international students to campus. This picnic is set for Saturday, Aug. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. Food will be provided for new incoming international students who sign up. GEO encourages the broader campus community to attend to help welcome these new students to our campus. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.

"International students face a series of hurdles and challenges to actualize their goal of studying in the United States. By the time they arrive in Albuquerque they are travel weary and unsure about what lies ahead. Most of them have never been to New Mexico prior to beginning their studies at UNM. Come out to help them feel at home," said Executive Director Nicole Tami.

"We are excited to welcome over 220 new international undergraduate, graduate and exchange students from approximately 96 countries and 87 majors. International students contribute diverse perspectives and bring the world to the UNM campus," said Linda Melville, director of International Student and Scholar Services.

The picnic will be held on the lawn near Scholes Hall and the Duck Pond. There will be lawn games, food, and music. It's a casual event, so join the fun and get to know students from around the globe.
