The Fargo Police Department Responds to Critical Incident in South Fargo

Officer-involved shooting incident under investigation

11/13/2024

The Fargo Police Department (FPD) responded to an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 10:50 a.m. in the area of 6100 block of 61st Ave. S. The incident is under active investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that officers were dispatched for a medical assist for a suicidal individual in a residence in south Fargo. Upon arrival, officers learned that an individual was armed inside the home. Emergency medical services were staged nearby as officers engaged in a dialogue in an attempt to help the individual. After a period of time, the individual exited the house with a handgun. Officers subsequently discharged their firearms. The individual was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Per FPD department policy, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The department has turned the investigation over to the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NDBCI) to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation.

Chief Dave Zibolski stated, "We understand that incidents like these are deeply concerning to our community. We are committed to a full and transparent investigation to determine the facts. We ask for the community's patience as NDBCI works to gather and verify the details surrounding this incident."
