Press Release

Des Moines, Iowa- Friday, September 6, 2024 - As the cooler months approach, Des Moines Parks and Recreation invites residents and visitors to explore a wide range of activities and opportunities designed to keep everyone engaged and active throughout the fall and winter seasons.

The newly released digital Fall/Winter Activities Guide is now available, with registrations open for a diverse selection of programs catering to all ages. Whether it's youth and adult sports leagues, environmental education programs, or exciting new offerings like adapted sports and inclusive community activities, the guide has something for everyone. This fall marks the launch of adapted basketball, along with a new inclusive community program that welcomes participants of all ability levels. Special events and seasonal programming are also available at the city's dog parks, community recreation centers and cemeteries.

Des Moines Parks and Recreation is also actively recruiting for seasonal staff to support the upcoming winter activities. Those interested in applying can find more information and submit applications online.

Parents and guardians should first create an account on the Parks and Recreation Department's registration system at dmparks.org. Once the account is set up, they can then register their children for activities. Due to the popularity of many programs, early registration is highly recommended to secure a spot. Sign up today at DSM.city/register.

In an effort to make programs accessible to all, scholarships with $5 registration fees for athletic programs are available through partnerships with Des Moines Public Schools and the State of Iowa. Eligibility details and application information can be found on the Des Moines Parks and Recreation website under the GRASP and YRSP scholarship programs.
