October Commercial Horticulture Programs

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture programs for October 2024. These programs are being offered by Commercial Horticulture Agent Dr. Tatiana Sanchez-Jones.

2024 UF/IFAS North Central Florida Turfgrass Field Day - Oct. 2, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the UF/IFAS Plant Science Research & Education Unit (2556 W. HWY 318, Citra)

Each year, industry partners are invited to hear the latest recommendations based on evidence-based research and to give them a glimpse of the new and upcoming research that the UF Turf Team is currently working on. Industry sponsors can reserve a table at the event to share information about their products and services.

The individual registration fee is $50.00 and includes lunch. The registration fee for sponsors (including up to three attendees) is $500.00 and includes a table/booth for vendor use, recognition during the event, and lunch for three attendees. Participants must register online.

Hydroponic Vegetable Production (Online) - From Oct. 21 to Nov. 15, available online in both English & Spanish (with Bob Hochmuth, the assistant center director and regional specialized extension agent for vegetables)

This four-week course costs $275.00 per participant, with a 20% discount if you register five or more. All course material is entirely online and available any time of the day and includes pre-recorded videos, an interactive discussion with the PhD professors, and quizzes. Course material is available in both English and Spanish, and new modules are activated each week during each course, for a total of eight learning modules.

Participants must register online by Oct. 28.

Hydroponic Vegetable Production (Online in Spanish) - Oct. 21 to Nov. 15. Este es un curso de nivel introductorio. Diseñado para maestros, pequeños productores y empleados en los EEUU y otros países con algo de experiencia en horticultura o producción hidropónica. Toma alrededor de 4 horas por semana para completar las lecciones y asignaciones.

Pepper Field Day - Oct. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the UF/IFAS Plant Research & Education Unit (2556 West Hwy. 318, Citra)

This field day will provide information on the production of peppers in North Central Florida with updates on breeding, disease and pest management, postharvest and more. There will be presentations, discussions, and a tour of research plots. Participants should bring a water bottle, hat and jacket.

The registration fee is $5.00 (plus $2.18 Eventbrite fee) and includes lunch. Participants must register online by Oct. 21. A late fee of $10.00 (plus $2.51 Eventbrite fee) will be applied after Oct. 21. This event is limited to 50 participants. There will be no refunds for the registration fee.
