The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is returning to Alberta, bringing the top under-18 (U18) hockey talent from around the world to Edmonton and reinforcing Alberta's long-standing reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events. Many of the tournament's past participants have gone on to successful National Hockey League (NHL) careers, and fans can look forward to watching the NHL's future stars showcase their incredible talent.

"The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is an opportunity to watch the rising stars of future hockey legends. Hosting events like these bring significant economic benefits to our communities and allow our homegrown talent to play in front of a hometown crowd. I'm looking forward to cheering on Team Canada as they look to repeat last year's gold medal performance."

Joseph Schow, Minister of Tourism and Sport

Alberta's government provided $11 million in funding to support major international hockey events, including two Hlinka Gretzky Cups, two Canada vs USA National Women's rivalry games, the 2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championship, four years of Hockey Canada summer camps, and the 2027 World Junior Championship.

The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is expected to inject an estimated $13 million into Edmonton's economy, supporting local businesses and hotels.

"We are thrilled to welcome the Hlinka Gretzky Cup back to Edmonton for the first time in six years, featuring some of the best U18 players in this prestigious international hockey showcase. This is a significant occasion for the community, and with the unwavering support of our partners, specifically the Province of Alberta, we are ready to create unforgettable memories for players and fans."

Dean McIntosh, senior vice president, Hockey Canada

The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is an annual, international U18 ice hockey tournament administered by Hockey Canada, the Czech Ice Hockey Association, and the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation. Previously known as the Juniors World Cup, the tournament was renamed in honour of Ivan Hlinka in 2004. When the tournament returned to Canada 2018, it was renamed the Hlinka Gretzky Cup to honour Wayne Gretzky.
