SAN FRANCISCO - Caltrans is conducting routine cable inspection and maintenance on the westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge starting September 26, which will require the closures of the far-right lanes from the Yerba Buena Island Tunnel tothe end of the bridge. This project ensures that the bridge remains safe and operational.

Inspections of the cable will be in progress Monday through Friday nights from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM, until May 2025. A construction work zone speed limit reduction will be in effect during these hours, reducing speed limit to 40MPH. Caltrans will keep the public apprised of all future scheduled closures. Traffic Delays:

Motorists traveling from the East Bay into San Francisco across the San Francisco Bay Bridge (westbound 1-80) may experience minor delays.

Caltrans thanks pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists for your patience as we work to repair freeway barriers. Every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience to the traveling public. When possible, please consider using public transit where your MUNI, BART, CalTrain, and AC Transit systems are all reliable and comfortable alternatives to driving.

Traffic Control Measures:

Changeable messages and directional signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. During the closures, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be onsite, and the reduced speed limit will be enforced. Please drive with caution. Slow for the Cone Zone and Be Work Zone Alert. Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience while we work to maintain our state's highways, bridges, and tunnels.
