Wyoming Celebrates National Workforce Development Month

CHEYENNE-This September, Wyoming proudly celebrates National Workforce Development Month by acknowledging the remarkable success of its labor force. The strength, resilience, and dedication of our workers have been instrumental in driving the state's economic success. In 2023, Wyoming's labor force reached a seven-year high of 295,207 individuals, a testament to the values of hard work and commitment that define our state's cowboy heritage.

With 286,669 individuals employed and only 8,538 unemployed, Wyoming achieved an impressive average annual unemployment rate of 2.9 percent, far below the national average of 3.6 percent. Additionally, Wyoming saw a significant decline in Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims in 2023, with only 10,460 recipients-the fewest since 1997. This demonstrates Wyoming's effective employment strategies and a labor market where opportunities thrive.

As of June 2024, Wyoming had an estimated 17,000 job openings-nearly double the number of unemployed individuals. This abundance of job opportunities highlights a tight labor market filled with potential. Key industries such as construction, hospitality, healthcare, and retail continue to drive economic growth.

While Wyoming has seen similar trends during past economic booms, today's dynamic labor market reflects the adaptability and enduring spirit of its workers. As we move forward, we celebrate the hardworking individuals who embody the values of the Code of the West and shape a prosperous future for Wyoming.

This month, we honor the unwavering spirit of Wyoming's workforce-the backbone of our state-whose determination ensures that Wyoming remains a place where hard work is rewarded and every effort matters.
