Orange County Corrections and Corrections Health Services Reaccredited for Quality Health Care Services

Orange County, FL - Orange County Health Services' Corrections Health Services (CHS) and Orange County Corrections Department (OCCD) have announced that the Orange County Jail received reaccreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).

"Accreditation is significant to both departments and it's a demonstrable symbol of their commitment to quality health care," said Louis A. QuiƱones, Jr., Chief of Orange County Corrections.

NCCHC met with the CHS staff from December 4-6, 2023. A team of experienced physicians and experts in correctional health care observed CHS and OCCD for compliance with jail-specific standards in several areas such as patient care and treatment, health promotion, safety and disease prevention, governance and administration, personnel training, special needs and services, and medical-legal issues.

"We have an obligation to ensure people receive the best care while at the Orange County Jail," said Dr. Raul Pino, Director for Orange County Health Services. "The Corrections Health Services staff provides quality health care through innovation, excellence, and efficiency."

This news comes just a couple weeks after Corrections Health Services received an award from the National Association of Counties for its Rapid Syphilis Screening program. The program proved that implementing screenings in correctional facilities can mitigate spread within broader communities. From April 2023 to June 2024, more than 1900 inmates were tested for Syphilis. Fifty-one of those individuals tested positive and 21 of them were new cases. The program was a collaboration between CHS, the National Association of City and Council Health Officials, the CDC, Hope and Health and the Florida Department of Health.
