Reclamation commissioner names Michael Pulskamp new senior advisor for hydropower and electricity reliability compliance officer

WASHINGTON - Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton named Michael Pulskamp as the senior advisor for hydropower and electric reliability compliance officer. He will provide strategic vision and direction for Reclamation's hydropower operations. Pulskamp will also lead intergovernmental initiatives and regulatory compliance associated with hydropower generation and delivery.

"Hydropower generated at Reclamation's facilities plays a key role in supporting the electricity needs and new and continuing renewable energy projects throughout the West," said Commissioner Touton. "Mike's long-term experience in the energy sector, especially his time at Reclamation collaborating with the internal power staff, other federal agencies and outside groups, is a great asset to the leadership team at Reclamation."

Pulskamp joined Reclamation in 2008 as a program analyst for the Power Resources Office. He worked on a variety of projects and issues including efforts to increase hydropower development at Reclamation facilities, asset planning and management, and optimizing hydropower generation at Reclamation hydropower plants.

In January 2017, he began managing the Power Resources Office, leading the Reclamation Hydropower Operation and Maintenance Program, Reclamation Electric Reliability Compliance Program, and the Hydropower Strategic Initiatives Program. He worked extensively on Reclamation's Hydropower Management Team on many projects including the development of Reclamation's 2020-2025 Hydropower Strategic Plan and action plan. He also collaborated with other federal agencies and outside groups representing Reclamation on a variety of power related policy matters.

Pulskamp earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Carolina in 1996 and a Master in Public Administration from the University of Colorado in 2008. He has worked in the energy sector for more than 26 years. He resides in Denver, Colorado, with his wife and two sons.
