Finland to deliver more defence materiel to Ukraine

Finland will deliver more defence materiel to Ukraine. The President of the Republic decided on the matter, on the proposal of the Government, on 28 June 2024.

This will be Finland's 24th package of defence materiel to Ukraine. The estimated cost of replacing the capabilities included in the package is around EUR 159 million. Finland has now delivered defence materiel to Ukraine to a total value of EUR 2.2 billion.

"Finland is committed to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia's unlawful aggression. This fight is not just about Ukraine. Ultimately, it is about the right of all free peoples to exist. Our own history has taught us Finns the importance of that right," says Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.

Finland will also contribute to the Czech initiative of joint procurement of ammunition. In the initiative, several European countries support Ukraine by joint procurement of defence materiel through Czechia's supplier contacts. The funds for Finland's participation in the initiative were allocated to the Ministry of Defence's branch of government in the first supplementary budget for 2024.

In addition, Finland contributes to the tank coalition led by Poland, Germany and Italy and to the information technology coalition led by Estonia and Luxembourg. These international capability coalitions aim to provide sustained support to Ukraine.

For operational reasons, and to ensure that the delivery reaches its destination safely, more detailed information on the content of the assistance, manner of delivery or schedule will not be provided.

Both Ukraine's needs and the resources of the Defence Forces have been taken into account when deciding on the additional assistance.
