Denver Local Love: Supporting Your Community and Sustainability

Supporting local businesses is a meaningful way to invest in the homegrown establishments that make your community unique! Not only does buying local help pour into your community, but it can also lead to a more sustainable lifestyle.

You may be thinking, "But how do I start?" which is not uncommon! In the technological age we live in, it can be difficult to know where to begin, but I have some tips on how to get started in Denver!

Farmers Markets

Farmer's markets are common throughout the country. They bring produce and other local wares right to your fingertips, typically through weekly or monthly pop-ups. Finding a farmers' market near you is only a web search away!

  • A personal favorite of mine is the Metro Denver Farmers' Market. Founded over 40 years ago, this market holds events in different areas throughout the week to bring the freshest local produce to those who need it! Occurring every Sunday, only a 10-minute drive from Camden Highlands Ridge, residents of the area can peruse booths maintained by local farmers and small businesses.

Low Waste Shops

A true combination of buying locally and sustainably, low-waste shops feature locally sourced, package-free options for everyday items such as toiletries, common house products, and personal care items. Many low-waste shops also feature a refills program to encourage patrons to "ditch the bottle" and utilize refilling stations for shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent, cleaners, and more!

  • Zero Market presents over 1,200 products designed to help customers live sustainably and support local businesses. In addition, they offer several diverse workshops on DIY zero-waste products, such as soaps, composting, deodorant, etc.

  • Off the Bottle provides compostable and sustainable products, from hair ties to reusable coffee bags. It also features a refill station for liquid house goods, toiletries, and so much more. Just bring your own jar or purchase a new one in-store!

Local Shops and Eateries

Go exploring in your community, and you'll find locally owned stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries. This is such a great way to give back to locals, just like you!

  • One of my personal favorites in Denver is Dandy Lion Coffee Co. A remarkable combination of a craft coffee café and plant shop only a 10-minute drive from Camden RiNo, this quirky café allows patrons to grab a drink and enjoy the immaculate atmosphere of the indoor greenhouse, small market offerings from local artists, and maybe a swing or two on the indoor swings!
