The patent puzzle

July 16, 2024

Patenting an invention can be puzzling and complex. It requires both legal and technical expertise, in-depth research to ensure novelty and strategic decisions about where and when to file. That's where the University of Missouri Technology Advancement team comes in.

In 2023, the office helped Mizzou researchers secure 16 U.S. patents and disclose 113 new inventions. And, because Mizzou's intellectual property often sparks commercial ventures, the office was also responsible for generating $18.6 million in licensing income.
