Des Moines University Invites High School Students to Free Virtual Pre-Health Summit

Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences invites high school students to its upcoming High School Pre-Health Summit, a free virtual event designed for high school students interested in exploring careers in health care.

Coordinated by DMU's admissions team, the event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 5, 2024. It will offer students the opportunity to gain insights into the world of medicine and health sciences and receive expert guidance on navigating the path to medical school.

"I was confused about where to study and what to study. The interaction I had with DMU students who were in my footsteps just a few years ago was cool because they knew what I was going through," says Abbie Belden, a past participant.

"The summit gives students an opportunity to get a preview of their future possibilities," adds Bryana Robinson, a second-year student in DMU's Doctor of Podiatric Medicine program and a former presenter.

During the event, participants will engage with current DMU students through interactive sessions and discussions. Participants will gain clarity on their educational journey from high school to medical school and learn how to make informed decisions in pursuit of their health care aspirations.

"We are excited to offer this unique opportunity for high school students to connect with their future and DMU students. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of health professionals by providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in their educational journeys," says Molly Moeller, senior director of admissions and recruitment at DMU.

Space is still available, and registration is open until Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024. To register, please visit dmu.edu/admissions/high-school-pathways.
