Himes Announces Flood Disaster Declaration for Connecticut

Bridgeport, CT - Today, President Joe Biden approved Governor Ned Lamont's request for a major disaster declaration due to the severe storms and flooding that Southwestern Connecticut experienced on August 18, 2024. Earlier this month, Congressman Himes joined the Connecticut Congressional delegation in a letter to President Bidenurging the approval of this declaration.

"Last month's historic rainfall and flooding caused widespread damage across Southwestern Connecticut," said Congressman Jim Himes. "Over the past few weeks, I have heard from too many of my constituents who are still reeling from its effects on their homes and businesses, as well as public infrastructure. This disaster declaration will help families access critical funding to recover from the storm's impact. Thank you to President Biden and Governor Lamont for helping deliver this relief to our state."

The approval of this declaration will make federal funding available to affected individuals in Fairfield County, Litchfield County, and New Haven County. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the damages of the disaster.
