The Illinois Department of Revenue has announced tax relief for individuals and businesses impacted by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding that began in Illinois on July 13, 2024.
This relief extends the deadline for affected taxpayers to file state individual and business tax returns and make tax payments until February 3, 2025. The tax relief applies to areas designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which currently includes Cook, Fulton, Henry, St. Clair, Washington, Will, and Winnebago counties, with more counties potentially being added. The postponement period covers income tax filing and payment deadlines that would have been due starting on July 13, 2024, and ending on February 3, 2025.
For those filing paper returns via mail, the Illinois Department of Revenue requests that taxpayers write "July 2024-Storms" in red ink at the top of their returns. Electronic filers should e-mail [email protected]. For more information on the extension, click here.
