Beyer Statement on 2024 Presidential Election

Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) today issued the following statement on the results of the 2024 presidential election:

"Donald Trump has been elected as the next president. This is not the result I hoped for, but I respect the decision of the American electorate.

"To my constituents, I know many of you are scared and angry - worried about what a Trump White House means for your life and livelihood. I want you to know that I will be your champion.

"We have a tough battle ahead. In the 119th Congress, Democrats will be working to defend the significant progress we have made to bolster infrastructure, invest in clean energy, and bring down inflation and pharmaceutical prices.

"I will remain a stalwart opponent of efforts to eviscerate the American civil service, restrict reproductive freedom, gut federal funding for critical services such as Metro, defund Social Security and Medicare, and roll back civil rights, environmental protections, and progress made addressing the climate crisis.

"I thank Vice President Kamala Harris for her willingness to lead our country and commend her commitment to ensuring an orderly and peaceful transition of government for the incoming administration. I know she will undoubtedly remain a strong force for good in our country."
