Pioneer Fire Level 1 Evacuation for Stehekin

Date:
August 23, 2024
Contact:Public Affairs

Effective yesterday at 6 pm, a Level 1 Evacuation notice for Stehekin has been issued by the Chelan County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Management in coordination with Northwest Incident Management Team 3. A Level 1 Evacuation alerts residents and visitors there is a wildfire in the area. The evacuation level is being downgraded from a Level 2 Evacuation notice issued on July 25. For more information on evacuation levels visit the Chelan County Emergency Management Active Emergencies webpage.

The Pioneer Fire is still an active wildfire. Firefighters and crews continue to work in the area. A burned landscape presents a number of safety hazards that either did not exist prior to the fire or are increased by the effects of the fire. Park managers are working to assess trail, camp, and area closures. There may be limited services and recreational opportunities available. Park closure information can be found on the park's Fire Closures page. Visit inciweb for up-to-date information on the Pioneer Fire.

Visitors should be aware of fire restrictions in all areas of the park complex. Campfires or the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbeque grills, are banned in all portions of North Cascades National Park Service Complex - North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. This includes all National Park Service lands and campgrounds along State Route 20 as well as Hozomeen and the entire Stehekin Valley. If you see smoke or flames dial 911 or report to a park information or visitor center.
