California secures federal assistance to support response to Bridge Fire

SACRAMENTO - Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of vital resources to Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties to suppress the Bridge Fire. California has also requested federal assistance to support the response to the Airport Fire in Orange County.

The fast-moving Bridge Fire grew rapidly to more than 34,000 acres Tuesday in the Angeles National Forest and is threatening homes in the communities of Wrightwood and Mt. Baldy.

California is battling multiple fast-moving wildfires in rugged locations in Southern California. I'm thankful for the support the Biden-Harris Administration is providing to firefighter teams working round the clock to contain these challenging fires and safeguard the lives and property of Californians.

The FMAG, which is provided through the President's Disaster Relief Fund on cost-share basis, will allow local, state and tribal agencies responding to the fire to apply for 75-percent reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs.

Earlier this wildfire season, California secured FMAGs for the Borel,Park, Thompson, French, Hawarden, Boyles and Line fires.
