Safran further commits to the UK Armed Forces Covenant

Safran's UK-based businesses have officially signed the Armed Forces Covenant, reinforcing their commitment to the UK's military community. This pledge ensures lasting backing for veterans, active service members, and military families across the country and aligns with the group's corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy.

In the UK, the Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge to support the armed forces community and recognise the value that serving personnel, veterans, and military families bring to our business and the country. The UK Ministry of Defence encourages companies to commit to the covenant, recognising those that go above and beyond in their commitments with tiered awards: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The decision for Safran to sign for all its businesses follows the recent Gold Award achievement by Safran Helicopter Engines in Fareham and the Bronze Award recognition granted to Safran Nacelles in Burnley, highlighting Safran's ongoing commitment to providing meaningful support.

Véronique Bardelmann, Safran UK National Executive, said: 'We are pleased to be further committing to the principles of the covenant and actively supporting our armed forces community, including veterans and serving personnel in our business. Inspired by the achievement of Safran Helicopter Engines, who have recently achieved Gold Status, we are proud to take this step forward and broaden our support to those with a military background. Collectively, Safran has over 3,600 colleagues in the UK and all Safran entities signing the Covenant ensures we have a consistent commitment in place across the country.'

Nick Earl, CEO of Safran Helicopter Engines UK commented, "As a proud veteran myself, I recognise the unique blend of skills, experience and mindset that service leavers can bring to businesses, which is why we are delighted to employ so many here in Fareham and to support reservists and military spouses with the flexibility they need. We were honoured to received our Gold Award this year and it's great to see our fellow Safran companies in the UK following suit."

As part of this commitment, Safran pledges to:

  • Support our employees who choose to be members of the Reserve Forces, including by accommodating their training and deployment where possible.
  • Promote the fact that we are an armed forces-friendly organisation as part of our daily activities and by including the Armed Forces Covenant in our literature where appropriate.
  • Seek to support the employment of veterans young and old by working with specialist recruitment partners, in order to establish a tailored employment pathway for Service Leavers.
  • Strive to support the employment of Service spouses and partners.
  • Endeavour to offer a degree of flexibility in granting leave for Service spouses and partners before, during and after a partner's deployment.
  • Support Remembrance Day.

This initiative aligns with Safran's broader corporate social responsibility strategy, which focuses on supporting local communities, while fostering an inclusive workplace environment that offers opportunities to people of all backgrounds, and celebrates the skills of our employees.
