Movies That Matter, a national award-winning film series program of the City of Fort Worth's Human Relations Commission, will present The Right to Read at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 1, at Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St.

About the film:The Right to Read (2023, NR-Language, 80 min.) shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.

Worth mentioning: Movies That Matter was created in 2010 as a way to create awareness in the community about human rights issues affecting people in Fort Worth and worldwide. The bi-monthly series presents film screenings and moderated discussions on a variety of human and civil rights topics. The program was recognized by the National League of Cities in 2013 for its ability to increased resident participation in government and local activities by all segments of the community.
