Taking Charge of Her Career

Kori Caya has worn multiple hats during her more than 20 years at Baxter - and she's worn them all well.

From starting as an administrative assistant to earning her bachelor's degree and seeking out new challenges, these experiences have all led to her current role as a Senior Project Manager, Research & Development (R&D). Today, Kori is instrumental in collaborating with colleagues across the company to drive new product developments and launches for the Pharmaceuticals segment. We spoke to Kori about her career journey and continued desire to take on new challenges and opportunities for growth.

Question: How did your career path lead you to your current role?

Kori: I've always believed that opportunities don't just fall into our laps - it's up to us to take the initiative. I started at Baxter as a temporary administrative assistant and worked my way up to a full-time senior admin role. Along the way, I became curious about project management. Following the guidance of a Baxter leader, I decided to pursue my bachelor's degree while maintaining my admin job. Shortly after earning the degree, I took on the role of Project Leader for a new platform. Currently, as a Senior Project Manager with eight years of experience in Pharamacueticals R&D, I've helped launch some critical products and I'm proud of my contribution to Baxter's mission to save and sustain lives.

Q: What's the most fulfilling part about working at Baxter?

Kori: For me, it's all about being able to make a meaningful impact on patients' lives. When my daughter was born, she battled a life-threatening condition and used Baxter products as part of her treatment. That moment made me realize the significance of what we do at Baxter. I also enjoy the collaborative spirit within the Baxter team. Every day, I look forward to going to the office and working with my colleagues on innovative projects that make a difference.

Q: What career advice would you give to your 25-year-old self?

Kori: Recognize your potential and take charge of your career path by seeking opportunities for growth and advancement. Surround yourself with supportive mentors and colleagues, and don't hesitate to lean on them for help - you can't do it all alone.

Q. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Kori: Outside of work, I find joy in my family life. I love bonding with my two children over sports and nature activities. And at home, we're surrounded by a bunch of furry and feathered friends - chickens, rabbits, dogs and cats - who make our home even livelier!
