Cobb County and six cities ratify service delivery agreement

Marietta, GA (August 15, 2024)-Chairwoman Lisa Cupid signed the Service Delivery Strategy agreement Thursday that governs how the county and its six cities manage service duplication.

The agreement came after a two-day mediation last month, which focused on how much the county should reimburse cities for the services city residents help pay for but may duplicate services provided by the county.

"The county and cities have been working together for decades as one Cobb," Chairwoman Lisa Cupid said. "This has been an arduous effort but an important one to ensure we tax our citizens fairly regarding the services we provide. I appreciate all of the work that took place from the commissioners to those with the cities to find a path forward that meets the interests of all parties in these negotiations."

The agreement provides the county will reimburse cities starting at $6.5 million this year and with annual increases up to $11 million over the next ten years. The agreement could be revisited once Mableton transitions to providing city services in 2025.

The agreement will be sent to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, which will review it to ensure compliance with state regulations.
