City Receives Over $781K in Safe Routes to School Grant

On Monday, October 14, the City was notified that they received an award of $781,676 in grant funding for the Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS) sidewalk improvement program. The SRTS program is funded through the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (FSIP), and aims to create fun and safe ways for children and their families to access schools.

The City initially applied for the grant funding in May of this year and will utilize the $781K in funding to provide a total of 1.4 miles of sidewalks throughout the community. Construction on this project is set to take place in 2027, with areas of impact including:

  • Elm Street from 12th Street to Lucy Kaegi Park
  • 14th Street from Locust to Fir Streets
  • 12th Street from Tall Grass to Elm Streets
  • 10th Street from Church to Elm Streets

Since 2023, the Eudora Public Works Department has applied for over $34.4M in grant funding. To date, $21.4M of these funds have been granted, $21.25M of which is made up of the RAISE Grant awarded for the Church Street Community Connectivity and Multimodal Enhancements project, expected to be completed in 2028/2029. Of the $34.4M applied for, the City is waiting for various announcements on award determinations for $5.7M of potential funding.
