Mexico strengthens cooperation with United Arab Emirates and Oman
  • Undersecretary María Teresa Mercado Pérez traveled to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and Muscat, Oman, to strengthen cooperation, deepen the political dialogue, and explore investment opportunities

Undersecretary María Teresa Mercado Pérez traveled to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and Muscat, Oman, from September 18-23 to boost cooperation and deepen the political dialogue.

In Abu Dhabi, the Undersecretary met with UAE Minister of State Ahmed Bin Ali Al Sayegh. They discussed bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors such as energy, agriculture, science and technological innovation, climate change, education, and culture. She also met with UAE Minister of State for Economy Abdulla Ahmed Al Saleh to explore investment and trade opportunities in Mexico under the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement between Mexico and the United Arab Emirates.

Representing Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena, Ambassador Mercado attended the opening of an exhibition featuring five Mexican archaeological artifacts at the Louvre Abu Dhabi (LAD). This initiative resulted from collaboration between Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the Emirati museum. The exhibition showcases Mexico's rich cultural heritage through pieces from various pre-Hispanic cultures, including Olmec, Toltec, and Maya. LAD authorities and the Chairman of Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism, Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, attended the event.

In Muscat, Oman, the Undersecretary co-chaired the second meeting for political consultations with Oman's Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Ali Al Harthy. The meeting aimed to strengthen the political dialogue, explore mediation for the peaceful resolution of regional conflicts, and expand bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including food security, port development, risk management, and diplomatic training collaboration.

Undersecretary Mercado also met with the Mexican community in the United Arab Emirates and Oman, demonstrating a commitment to diplomacy that prioritizes assistance for our nationals abroad.

Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of Mexico reaffirms its commitment to further strengthen its economic and cooperative ties with the UAE and Oman. Mexico will commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with both countries in 2025.
