Maternity and child health pioneer awarded Honorary Doctorate

Agnes' honorary degree, Doctor of Business, is in recognition of her commitment to improving maternal and child health, and for her development in higher education and research in the important area of maternal and child health for Black heritage women and children.

An inspirational leader and advocate for Black and marginalised communities, Agnes has received global recognition; including from Beyonce, who awarded her business a grant through the BeyGOOD foundation.

An influential social entrepreneur, Agnes has increased visibility around maternal rights for Black women, as well as raising awareness of women who balance work, entrepreneurship and motherhood.

A member of Solent's alumni community, Agnes is an active role model for students and graduates.

Through Global Black Maternal Health, Agnes and her team have produced two groundbreaking research projects: Black Child Clean Air and Black Child SEND. The impact of these projects has been widespread, with recognition from the Mayor of London and the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology among others.

In 2018, Agnes founded THE GLOMAMA Awards - an esteemed event created to celebrate the achievements of mothers.

A tireless advocate and leader, Agnes has been published extensively, and is a named author of the influential Babies in Lockdown Report. Furthermore, Agnes' article, Why Bias is Key to Stopping Institutional and Structural Racism in Healthcare and Research, was featured on the front page of the international nursing journal, Nurse Researcher.
