1. The conclusion of the Latin America and Caribbean regional consultation/workshop held in Santiago from June 13 (Thursday) to 14 (Friday) marked the completion of the regional consultations/workshops to prepare for the second Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Military Domain (REAIM) Summit, which will be co-hosted by the Korean and Dutch governments in Seoul this September.
2. This REAIM regional consultation/workshop in Latin America and the Caribbean, co-hosted by Korea, the Netherlands, Chile and Costa Rica, followed the regional consultations/workshops held in Asia (February 26-27 in Singapore), Southeast Europe, the Middle East, the South Caucasus and Central Asia (May 22-23 in Türkiye), Europe and North America (virtual on May 30) and Africa (June 5-6 in Kenya). The event brought together officials from the foreign and defense ministries of 14 countries* in the Latin America and Caribbean region as well as experts from the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), the Geneva-based Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) and the region.

3. The REAIM regional consultations/workshops aimed to enhance regional understanding and engagement on the military application of AI in the run-up to the second REAIM Summit. The Korean government will prepare for a successful second REAIM Summit by incorporating opinions gathered from the series of regional consultations/workshops.
4. The REAIM Summit is global dialogue aimed at exploring ways for cooperation and exchanging insights for the responsible development, deployment and use of AI in the military domain. As part of its efforts to contribute as a Global Pivotal State to establishing international norms for the responsible use of AI, the Republic of Korea, together with the Netherlands, hosted the first REAIM Summit in The Hague in February 2023. The second REAIM Summit will be held in Seoul from September 9 to 10 this year.
