The University of New Mexico Alumni Association invites the campus community to join in the annual Veterans Day Celebration and Remembrance on Monday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. The UNM Alumni Veterans Chapter and the Veterans Military Resource Center co-host this special event at the Alumni Memorial Chapel.
The ceremony will honor the courage and sacrifice of all Veterans, with a special tribute to the UNM alumni who gave their lives serving our country. The program will feature the sounds of bugle and bagpipes, and remarks from guest speaker Paul Blodgett, a UNM graduate and U.S. Navy Veteran.
Attendees are invited to a reception with refreshments after the ceremony in the chapel courtyard.
Paul Blodgett attended UNM on an ROTC scholarship, graduating in 2002 with a degree in history and naval science. The U.S. Navy immediately assigned him to the USS Albuquerque (SSN 706) as a submarine officer. Blodgett went on to earn a master's degree in applied physics from the Naval Postgraduate School and became the Chief Engineering Officer on another submarine.
After teaching physics at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Blodgett transitioned to a civilian career in quantitative finance. He oversees operations around the globe for a private investment firm in Princeton, New Jersey, with a focus on compliance and risk management. Blodgett also stays active in his community, including serving as a member of the Board of Trustees for The University of New Mexico Foundation.
