Charlestown Officers Recovered a Firearm After a Traffic Stop

At about 10:18 PM, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, officers assigned to A-15 (Charlestown) arrested Brian Murat, 22, of Randolph, on firearm and drug charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Terminal Street when they observed a motor vehicle in the Little Mystic Boat Ramp parking lot. The vehicle was parked in a designated "Boat Ramp Parking Only" and officers observed that the vehicle was not towing a boat or trailer.

Officers approached the vehicle and advised the occupants for the reason of the stop. Officers immediately observed in plain view, a firearm on the front passenger floor board. Officers quickly removed the occupants from the vehicle and placed them into handcuffs.

Officers were able to determine that the firearm belonged to Murat. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 22 with one round in the chamber and eleven rounds in the magazine. As officers searched the suspect, they recovered fourteen individually wrapped plastic bags of crack cocaine. The operator of the vehicle was promptly released from the scene.

Murat was placed under arrest and charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License 2nd Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Subsequent Offense, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B. He is expected to be arraigned in Charlestown District Court.
