On December 12, 2024, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers were patrolling in the area of Sargent Avenue and Simcoe Street when they observed a white 2023 Nissan Qashqai which was reported stolen from rear of a residence on December 8, 2024, in the 100 block of Gerard Street.

Officers began to follow the Qashqai as it drove throughout central downtown, turning down a back lane between Home Street and Arlington Street. Officers turned into the back lane in order to contain the suspect vehicle when it deliberately rammed one of the police cruisers in an effort to flee the area.

As a result of the collision, the vehicle became stuck on a snowbank at the corner of Home Street and Ellice Avenue. Two occupants were taken into custody without incident. Both officers were not injured in the collision.

Darcy Jace SEYMOUR, 24, of Winnipeg had been charged with the following:

  • Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon x 2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

He was detained in custody.

A 23-year-old female passenger was released with no charges.
